Thoughts on “The Book of Pooh”

On 28 January 2024, I searched Brave for, “how do the book of pooh puppets work”.

The Wikipedia entry for the show mentioned “[the] style of puppetry is based on Japanese bunraku puppetry” but there were also two fascinating results further down that I want to highlight:

  • Rick Lyon — The Book of Pooh (lyonpuppets.com)
    • One of the puppeteers shares photos from their time making the show with a brief description of the technique used.
  • Mitchell Kriegman – The Book of Pooh (dvdtalk.com)
    • This is a fascinating discussion with the creator of both The Book of Pooh and Bear in the Big Blue House.
    • The interview is strangely undated (couldn’t even find anything buried in the source code). However with references to the DVD “The Book of Pooh – Stories From the Heart” (Amazon product link), which has a release date ‎of 17 July 2001, and discussing production for the fourth season of Bear in the Big Blue House starting soon, it’s definitely from that era.
