How to embed Facebook videos in WordPress

Believe it or not, this seems surprisingly unclear at first blush! Or maybe that isn’t too surprising considering how often Facebook changes the rules. :-p The first thing you/Google think to try is just to embed it directly. [embed width=”123″ height=”456″]https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAulani/videos/961137040599463/[/embed] But that doesn’t work because WordPress doesn’t support direct embeds from Facebook (again, not too surprising).* The next suggestion from Lord Google is to copy/paste the Facebook embed code and post that directly in the post (it’s HTML code so we have to make sure to use Text mode instead of Visual mode). <div id=”fb-root”></div><script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_PI/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3″; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));</script><div class=”fb-video” data-allowfullscreen=”1″ data-href=”/DisneyAulani/videos/vb.147898618589980/961137040599463/?type=3″><div class=”fb-xfbml-parse-ignore”><blockquote cite=”https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAulani/videos/961137040599463/”><a href=”https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAulani/videos/961137040599463/”></a><p>Uncle prepares for Fall at Aulani!</p>Posted by <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAulani”>Disney Aulani</a> on Day o&#039; the Moon, Septembarrr 21, 2015</blockquote></div></div> But that doesn’t work. Hmm. We can’t … Continue reading →

ICS file Timezone Formatting

I recently RSVP’d for an event that allowed me to add the event to my calendar via ICS file. But the file was somewhat crudely constructed and made no mention of what timezone the event was in, so I suddenly had a VERY early Sunday morning event to contend with (which would never do lol). Being something resembling a web developer, I immediately tried looking at the source code of the ICS file to see what was going on. It loaded fine in my favorite plain-text editor (TextPad) and the problem was immediately clear — there was an absolute dearth of any timezone related information in the file. I tinker-toyed with the idea of just adding PDT to the end of the DTSTART and DTEND lines, but then decided – for the sanity of my calendar app – to do a precursory search for proper formatting of an ICS file. Who knows, … Continue reading →

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Cloud

Shortly after I first started working at DreamHost (Fall 2011), there was a lot of talk about “the cloud” and because I’m never tuned into the right channels, I couldn’t help but feel like DreamHost was just enslaving themselves to some kind of marketing buzzword and we wouldn’t be doing anything significantly different. The continual mention of “the cloud” made me laugh out loud like Candace Flynn anytime anyone said anything about writing letters to Santa Claus. And I didn’t think twice about those thoughts until I stumbled across this recent Dilbert comic strip (almost a year after I initially had those thoughts about “the cloud”) and I was amazed and somewhat humbled to realize how much of a cloud nut I’ve become since then. So I started poking around to get some more information about “the cloud”. First I read Who Invented The Cloud by TelecomTV.Com to try and … Continue reading →

Windows 8, Eh?

8 Things We Hate About Windows 8 8 Things We Love About Windows 8 An interesting analysis of what Microsoft is up to with the impending new release of their Operating System. Some of the “Love” features sound really nifty, but I’m very confused by this whole “Metro UI” thing….methinks I’m going to have to get meself a playground and muck about with Windows 8….

PC Magazine Daily Digest Reactions

At CES, Vendors Play Catch Up With Apple Windows 8 you say…a laptop with a detachable table you say…that’s goatee stroakingly interesting! Last Ballmer CES Keynote Light on News, Big on Windows 8 Okay. Wait a second. Ryan Seacrest was on stage talking to Steve Ballmer about what’s coming next? Why? So more “not news but hype”, but the YouTube link at the bottom about the “Josh Groban Sings The Best Kanye West Tweets”? Priceless. Google ‘Dream’ Doodle Honors Martin Luther King Jr. Beautiful as always. Murdoch Slams Google, White House Over Piracy, SOPA I have absolutely NO respect for Rupert Murdoch’s statements. I still think Fox News is “more balanced” than any other news network out there, but really the future is going to belong to the Internet so get off your Twat-box Rupy. 😉 Murdoch: News Corp. ‘Screwed Up’ With MySpace Bwahaha. Yeah. That’s pretty funny. Also interesting … Continue reading →

Internet Explorer Won’t Let You Change A Saved Password? Hack The Registry!

First off, why are you still using Internet Explorer? Secondly….WHY ARE YOU STILL USING INTERNET EXPLORER?!?!? Just kidding. So you’ve changed your webmail password and Internet Explorer won’t update the password stored in it’s Auto Complete. Well here’s the rub – IE has stored the password in your registry in an encrypted form. Gates forbid you could just open the registry, find the website you changed the password and modify that registry entry. 1. Close Internet Explorer. 2. Click on Start / Run … (or hit [START]+R) and in the run field type regedit (you will need to have administrator rights to edit the registry). 3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2 4. In the left window pane, select the Storage2 key, then from the menu, select File / Export and save the key to your Desktop with the File Name: oldstorage.reg 5. In the right window pane select all values (except … Continue reading →
