Random Iron Man References

Update: 5/5/2008 Even more Iron Man references at Ctrl+Alt+Del and Evil Inc. The Evil Inc one is actually even funnier since Tony Stark/Iron Man was a big proponent of the Super Human registration act in the recent Civil War storyline (so sue me, I read the Wikipedia entry). Update: 4/30/2008 Found another Iron Man comic references on Least I Could Do, actually a week’s worth of comics. Brilliant! Starts on 4/21 and ends on 4/24. While watching Scott Krutz draw PVP live on UStream, he mentioned his twitter post the other day about interrupting the current story line for an Iron Man gag, and I was reminded of who else has done an Iron Man joke recently.Foxtrot by Bill Amend & Ctrl+Alt+DelRandom, but enjoy.

The Andrews Brothers – Musical Theatre West

A most amusing musical with a 4 person cast, from the guy who brought us the The Marvelous Wonderettes (Roger Bean). Chronicling the madcap mayhem that ensues when three brothers have to double duty their stage hand duties and perform on stage at a USO show when the Andrews Sisters get chicken pox, this is a highly enjoyable jukebox musical featuring the greatest hits of Patti, Maxine and Laverne. I hate that the program isn’t in show order, but just a list of the songs used because there were some REALLY GOOD medleys that I would love to hear again (luckily the author’s website has the accurate song listings…yay!). Starring David Engel, Stan Chandler and *Patrick* as the brothers and *Peggy* as Peggy Jones the pin-up girl, the show has lots of energy and is really funny. Not to mention great music…it was torture to have to sit and listen … Continue reading →

Urinetown – Cerritos College

THEY DID THE BUNNY HOP DURING THE FINAL CHORUS OF DON’T BE THE BUNNY!!!! OMFG!!!! IT FITS PERFECTLY AND IT’S HILARIOUS! This is the fifth production of this musical that I’ve seen (on Broadway, technically off-Broadway; the national tour at OCPAC; PCPA Theatrefest in Solvang; Laguna Beach High School) and I learn something new every time I see it. It is such a brilliantly constructed musical with thought-provoking content wrapped in comedy that I could see it five more times and still not be tired of it. The music is jazzy and fun, the dialogue and lyrics pop with cynicism and wit and the characters are lovable despite of, and even for, their depravity. Now enough ranting about how great the show is. Some minor negative values for this production: it is a community college production run by community college students for many of whom this is their first time. … Continue reading →

Manga X-men

Blog@Newsarama » Another look at the manga-style Wolverine, X-Men Courtesy of Joshua Jericho via Twitter, take a look at classic Marvel characters done up in manga style….I’m a little concerned with how different Hank McCoy/Beast looks, but I’m not condemning it.

21 and The Forbidden Kingdom

21 An exciting based-on-a-true-story drama, we follow the life experience of an MIT student who needs 300,000 dollars to go to Harvard Med…so he counts cards in Vegas, gets emotional and pisses off his mentor, gets cheated and gets revenge and gets cheated again. Lots of fun and lots of good jokes plus an important life lesson: if you get lots of money, DON’T HIDE IT IN THE CEILING OF YOUR DORM ROOM! 😉 The Forbidden Kingdom This film freaking rules! Well first off – the opening is ok up to the point where the gang banger starts beating up on Michael Angarano for hanging out with “those chinks in yellow town”…first off I didn’t know south Boston was so racist and second I didn’t know gang bangers took karate. My big issue with the opening was that is was SOOOOOO 90’s: kid is introduced; kid gets challenged or beat-up; … Continue reading →

Social Networks Sell Out, Comedy, Netflix Limitations and Star Wars Classic Moments

Selling out Social Networks « Sailors in Vegetable Oil | Design You Trust – Design, Photography, Fashion, Advertising Magazine and Community. Apparently Netflix has a queue limitation of 500 discs…I have hit that limit with films that I wish to see….sigh 😉 And I just chugged 8oz of wheat grass. My local Jamba Juice was trying to get rid of their wheat grass so instead of paying for 2 oz, they gave me 8 oz for free. And I chugged it. That’s right…I’m insane. *takes a bow* One of the things I was able to “save” (via photography) from my water-soaked box of mementos was an old issue of Star Wars Insider with the Top 10 Classic Trilogy Moments.

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Communists by Gideon Defoe

The latest addition to Gideon Defoe’s masterful works continues the exciting and exhilarating romps through Europe with the witlessly brave Pirate Captain and his crew. The trouble starts when the Pirate Captain is mistaken for Karl Marx, but the adventure escalates as the Pirate Captain and his crew scour Paris to try and figure out why everyone hates communists. A brilliant comedic adventure that is a wonderful addition to Defoe’s other pirate adventures. Highly recommended.

City of Angels – Cal State Fullerton

A decent production of one of my favorite musicals, my first complaint is with the program. It kind of awkwardly describes whats actually going on in the play. It says that the story has two plot lines: one is an author writing the screenplay of one of his novels and the other is that same author dealing with the Hollywood politics as his screenplay is torn to shreds (or something to that effect). It also has two “cast lists”: the Hollywood cast and the movie cast. It is kind of hard at first blush to interpret that statement if you’re unfamiliar with the play, so let me try and lay it out for you in a less confusing manner. Stine, the author of City of Angels, is adapting his novel into a screenplay for his director, Buddy Fidler. While Stine is writing the screenplay, we see the film noir detective … Continue reading →

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Ahab by Gideon Defoe

It’s hard to review this book without a) giving away too much of the plot and b) finding enough different words to describe just how enjoyable the book is. It is a rollicking good time that presents an amusing take on the lives of pirates as they follow their devoted Captain around America searching for money to get out of debt with. I enjoyed this book very, VERY much and would highly recommend it to anyone, pirate fan or otherwise.
