Dealing With Myspace Fear and The Danger Of Radical Islamism

BBC News | Europe | Writers issue cartoon row warning Interesting story through the BBC about the danger of Islamism. Problem is, we the U.S. (or more specifically the Bush administration) gave into Islamism by saying the cartoons were too outrageous. We can’t give into radicals and fundamentalists like Hitler or Osama. Maybe there’s still time to recognize how dangerous the radical element of Islam is…but not the way things are now… BBC News | Science/Nature | Antarctica losing ice to oceans Science, a leading journal, has just published an article about measuring the Antarctic ice caps with gravity. Sounds cool, huh? BBC News | Business | High Court clears P&O’s takeover So Britain isn’t gonna stop Dubai Ports World’s acquisition of US Ports, eh? Well guess who’s a chief executive of DPW? Feel free to start panicking. Snarkmarket: MySpace ph34r First there was the Columbine-area teen and now the … Continue reading →

What Will You Be Remembered For

What Will YOU Be Remembered For? – February 28, 2006 I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about Dick Cheney’s hunting accident. In itself, the incident is nothing special and the media is fixated on it for no reason (oh wait, they’re not fixated anymore). Anyways, I told my friend about what somebody said about the guy Cheney shot (wish I could remember where I heard/saw it, it’s driving me nuts): this is what he will be remembered for. His obituary title will not be, “Loving father and dedicated crusader of justice dies at ??” but “The man Dick Cheney shot in a ‘hunting accident’ dies at ??”. I in turn brought up the point that Al Michaels will be remembered for being traded for a cartoon character in his obituary. Wait…maybe I stole this verbatim from a radio show I heard. I can’t even tell … Continue reading →

Oswald The Lucky Rabbit Comes Home

Walt Disney’s first cartoon creation just returned to the Walt Disney Company. Guess Robert Iger just got a few more credibility points in Disneyana’s eyes, eh? Apparently, he traded Al Michaels, a sportscaster (not like I would know), to NBC, who inherited the rights to develop Oswald when they bought Universal Studios. Isn’t this fantastic? As a Disney fan, I can’t remember how many times I’ve heard the story of Oswald. He was Walt’s first cartoon character creation when he was just starting out in Los Angeles. Just as he was ready to go solo with “his creation”, the company he was working for (Universal Studios) laughed at him and kicked him into the street…sans Oswald. He had signed away his first character without realizing the consequences. Of course, this led to Walt taking that historic train ride on which he invented Mickey Mouse… but many wonder (not me, I … Continue reading →

More Freedom Of Expression

I just can’t figure it out. When I first heard about Kanye West being portrayed as Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone, I dove into the media “frenzy” with gusto trying to find the why. I’ve been reading news articles for the past couple of days now and I can’t find the why except for Rolling Stone’s need to offend and their need to be “anti-establishment”. Me personally? I’m not really offended. I think it’s a gross misstatement to compare Kanye West and Jesus (it’s impossible…nobody measures up…nobody is so suffused with the divinity of God as Jesus was*), but it doesn’t really offend me. It’s kind of funny to see the lengths to which Rolling Stone will go to offend their readers, but I just don’t see the connection. Even if they were to say that the picture is art, I don’t get what they’re trying to say. … Continue reading →

Freedom Of Expression

UPDATE 2/7/06: Bush has given his personal support for the Dutch Prime Minister who refuses to apologize to Muslims for the printing of the cartoons. So his State Department says we don’t approve, but Bush says he does approve. Also, if you’re interested in actually seeing the cartoons, I found this link over at the John and Ken website. If you’re Muslim, you probably shouldn’t click it 😉 America has apologized to radical Islam for the free-speech controversy that is embroiling Europe. That’s right, we APOLOGIZED to the radical element of Islam that endorses terrorism and hates our guts. Ladies and gentleman, we are now worse than FRANCE! America was founded on the principles of freedom and now Bush has finally sold us out completely. It was bad enough that he wants to take care of the illegal immigration problem by granting amnesty (the last time this was tried in … Continue reading →

Weird News

Weird News (11/15/05) Congress must be eliminated…not as a concept, just in it’s current state. I mean, they just came to an agreement with baseball on the punishment for those using steroids. That is not their responsibility…the government should have nothing to do how a business runs itself and the Major League Baseball is a business organization first. And the worst part is that they keep doing it…we’re not telling them to stop! We’re letting them run our life. We have a responsibility as citizens of this country to run it, not to elect someone to run it for us. That’s what’s so frustrating about last Tuesday’s special election in California. We kept the status quo. We could have changed the way this state does business and we let the public employee unions talk us out of it. Granted Schwarzenegger didn’t campaign hard enough, it’s still mostly our fault. (11/15/05) … Continue reading →
