Paul Jeami Going back to South East Asia (went 2 years ago) Concerned about human trafficking Mercy’s Village is looking to see what we can do about this in that area One country I’ll be visiting is Cambodia Want to bless one particular organization I’d like to bless is Daughters of Cambodia I’ve printed out some of their prayer requests and they’re on the table here If you want you can write a letter in response to one of the requests there or to the organization in general or to the staff specifically I can also email you the requests if you’re interested Paul Interesting that we were just singing about chains being broken How we frequently forget there are actual chains out there in the world that still need to be broken There is power in our prayers, in our worship My voice may sound horrible, but don’t worry, … Continue reading →

Paul Maria Prayer for the offering Paul Ed. Note: Just an amazing thought inspired by “love endures forever” about how God was spurned by his lover, but he was the “bigger man” and sacrificed all to win us back. Maria Going to read you some passages Luke 9 where Jesus is determined to go to Jerusalem Right now we’re in the season of Lent 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday Funky Christian math where we skip Sundays A lot of Catholics give up meat, resulting in Fish Fry Fridays Here at The Rock, we’re focusing on the idea of giving things away for the benefit of others Letting our self-deprivation bless others Questions: Who is someone in your life that you would like to see thrive? What is one way that you can bless them and remind them that they are loved? Is there someone you feel God … Continue reading →

[My Reaction To Empire’s] 40 Movies You (Probably) Didn’t Know Were Comic Books

Original Article on Empire.com So after a friend posted this article and I started reading it, I almost immediately knew I wanted to tally my scores. But then above and beyond that, my wifey and I actually started arguing about the authenticity of this list! She started questioning it at “Over The Hedge” (comic strip vs. comic book) but it really got crazy at “The Fountain” (she felt that if it was always intended to be a movie, then what’s to keep this list from saying that “you probably didn’t know that Pride & Prejudice was a comic book” (which it is)). Being a pig-headed boy, it took me a while to understand her argument, but when I finally did get it, I heartily agreed with her. But I still wanted to tally my scores, so, without further ado: the categories for scoring and the numbers on the list! Films … Continue reading →

Paul Jon Matthew 11:4-6 Mark 6:14-29 Jesus does that remez thing where he quotes Old Testament Isaiah You are blessed when you are not bitter because of me Left off “to proclaim freedom from the captives and freedom from darkness for the prisoner” In other words yes, but your expectations are off You’re also not going to get out of prison and your life will not end well Have to constantly struggle with how to respond That bitter sting that you feel Deut 32:48-52 40 years of doing the right thing with very few slip and because of one of them, you can’t enter the promised land King David, a man after God’s own heart A lot of passion for sin as well (he was REALLY good at it) Deep passion/dream to build a temple for God, but no, I’m going to give it to your son Blessed when you … Continue reading →

Matthew Katie Announcements Advent reading Matthew He decided to call off their engagement quietly…and Joseph called Him Jesus Jon This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. When Mary his mother was engaged to Joseph, before they were married, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn’t want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly. As he was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child she carries was conceived by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Now all of this took place so that what the Lord had spoken through the … Continue reading →

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Started: 3 Dec 2013 Finished: 6 Dec 2013 I know, I know. I shouldn’t have. But I felt oddly compelled when I found it in the library. Like I needed to find out what all the fuss was about. And surprisingly I rather enjoyed it. It was difficult to put down and I’m intrigued enough to check out the rest of the series. Not sure about the movies though; we’ll have to see. 😉 The only frustrating thing was that while reading it I couldn’t get out of my head the way someone else had described the book to me: that it was like reading about two kids not having sex. :-p Anyways: on to the bits from the book that I enjoyed, made me think, and (in one case) frustrated me. Throughout the vast shadowy world of ghosts and demons there is no figure so terrible, no figure so … Continue reading →
