Advent is about celebrating the coming of God into our world

What helps us celebrate God, Christ, Emmanuel (God with us)

Regina

My mom gave me this stuffed Christmas tree with stuffed Nativity ornaments and we hang new items to match the theme of the week
30% of Manhattan Beach is Jewish, so we celebrate Chanukah
I think it’s a bridge for the boys to some of the other kids in their school
Celebrate the day of Epiphany
El Molina sells king bread with plastic babies inside it

Maria
Can draw ideas from each other but also the church calendar, I hadn’t even thought about celebrating epiphany
If you want to share let us know
You can also write on a paper ornament and hang it on the tree and see what other families are up to

Mark’s Gospel moves very quickly

19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. Then he went home; 20 and the crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. 21 When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.” 22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.” 23 And he called them to him, and spoke to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered. 28 “Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.” 31 Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters[a] are outside, asking for you.” 33 And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”
Mark 3:19b-35

Intercalation; I like to call it a sandwich

There’s always a link between the two opposing forces / pieces of bread
Both sides think Jesus is insane

Sitting at someone’s table indicated that you were for whomever you were seated with
Ed. Note: so like high school!

Reading things like this I sometimes wonder if our stability and our false sense of security has blinded us to true vision

Jesus’ concern is not with how He is viewed, but with celebrating the end of Satan’s reign

Mark 1:7
One who is more powerful than I is coming after me
A stronger one than I
Jesus moves against evil, He’s stronger than evil, He confronts it
I am giving you this authority

Juan Luis Segundo – The blasphemy resulting from bad apologetics will always be pardonable.

NT Wright – it’s like holding a conspiracy theory.

Watch that your hearts are not hardened
A sign of hardness is hating anyone
Hating someone is not permitted in God’s kingdom

Where do you see yourself in the story?

I don’t think I covered everything that could possibly be covered on this subject
It’s a REALLY meaty passage
So much ink has been spilled on the subject of blaspheming the Holy Spirit
