Disneyland

After dancing, dinner and dancing to Rumble Kings in the Build-A-Bear Plaza of Downtown Disney, we headed inside to catch some more dancing (again we had the horrible choice between Rumble Kings, Gary Tole AND Scot Bruce…why does Disney hate us so?). As we headed through the bag check, I had an amusing conversation with a supervisor who was opening up a side gate in order to create a no-bag line, which I told her was brilliant. As we avoided firework traffic patterns by ducking through the Main Street boutiques, we happened to run into our friends Rebecca and Charley who had impulsively heeded Disneyland’s call and driven up from San Diego. Not to say we didn’t know they were there, we just had…trouble communicating…yeah…that’s it. We chatted with them for a while and then left them to shop and head back to their hotel room (they were tired earlier … Continue reading →

Up – Century 20 @ Bella Terra, Huntington Beach, CA

A fitting 10th film for Pixar, Up is a delightful and charming story with action, adventure, suspense and vistas to knock your socks off! The 3-D experience (while not granting us a viewing of the new short Partly Cloudy…at least not at the midnight, 3-D showing) was extremely well worth the extra cash. It creates more depth and realism in the film…big action sequences look even bigger and tender moments are revitalized with a deeper clarity. I wasn’t very excited by the trailers before this film…I mean Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs looked fun the first time, but 3-D didn’t really add anything to it…I’m bored by the Ice Age 3 teaser with Scrat…but I can’t complain too much. Can’t be too much of a wet blanket because the trailers are only 20 minutes out of a two hour presentation. Oh yeah! And especially since they gave us a … Continue reading →

Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian – Century 20 @ Bella Terra, Huntington Beach, CA

Absolutely BRILIANT sequel. The plot isn’t hackneyed and the adventure is out of this world! Not too fond of Bill Hader’s portrayal of General George Custer. Although Hader is funny (see SNL and Hot Rod), I didn’t quite appreciate his humor and bravado as Custer. Then again, they were just using Custer in the same way they used Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) in the last film (as a cowardly, waxy version of the heroic person they’re molded after)…but they did it weird! Oh well. I was happy to recognize Bill Hader though (I couldn’t tell it was him on the cardboard cutout/poster). Were there a lot of American “The Office” cameos (Andy, Kelli, and Cal) at Ricky Gervais’ request (he the star actor, writer, director of the British “The Office” and executive producer of the American “The Office”)? Or was it merely happy coincidence? I always wonder in these cases … Continue reading →
