Public Enemies – AMC Del Amo 18

I enjoyed this film very much. I love Johnny Depp and the “story” of John Dillinger presented is visceral and refreshing to watch. He may not have exactly been a noble Robin Hood, but he had a code of honor that is more and more rare in today’s society (unlike Troy). I like Michael Mann. Well I mean I didn’t see Miami Vice, but that’s because I wasn’t interested and had no vested stake in a movie version of a TV show I’ve never seen. I saw Collateral first, liked it, then went back and saw Heat and liked it as well. It’s exciting how realistic Michael Mann films look like…so visceral and gritty. Yay! Filmed all in America! Yay David Wenham! Sure he’s a character on the periphery of Dillinger’s life, but yay Faramir! Pretty clothes! I want to watch Manhattan Melodrama now! I was surprised that the FBI … Continue reading →

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince – Century 20 @ Bella Terra, Huntington Beach

I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!! I HATE TEENAGED TWILIGHT FANS!!! Yay for Luna’s lion hat! Yay for Quiditch (we haven’t actually seen a game since the thrd movie)! Yay for Jim Broadbent (Merlin’s beard!)! Yay for Tom Felton getting a lot of emotional spectrum and screentime instead of just being a wanker and a git! Yay for Ginny Weasely! Boo for Fawkes removed disappearance! Boo for Harry not being magically frozen by Dumbledore during the finale! Boo for Horcrux scene (well acted, but not at all what I expected visually – they made it crystally and more naturally occuring which is silly because it’s magic)!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – OCPAC

************* *UPDATE* – 7/19/2009 ************* Me Ol’ Bamboo and Posh were too slow. Posh is kind of understandable for the actor, but the only excuse for Bamboo is that they dont have enough offstage chorus people covering vocals for the exerting dancers. I mean I just saw the 83 year old Dick Van Dyke do it at tempo without the choreography, so do they really even have an excuse? And they modified the roll off choreography that Potts leads slightly (Laura noticed it and I agree with her). Truly Scrumptious was too fast. They also didn’t do the talking intro for it (you’d had to be called somethig lovely like toot sweets). I actually heard Lord Scrumptious (who is double cast as Baron Bombast) be angry at Potts for his invention ruining the factory with the dog whistle. The kids steal the show everytime. It’s still very cute (Hushabye Mountain … Continue reading →

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (IMAX) – AMC Del Amo 18

The best praise I can give this movie is that I liked it better than the first one. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy or like this movie (which I did), but I wasn’t on fire to see it in the first place and basically I was pleasantly surprised. My problems with the first movie are pretty well described by VG Cats: “You have one token human, then make way for the f*#$ing robots”. Sure I laughed at the parents and at Shia LeBouf and Megan Fox…but I REALLY hated John Tuturro and Anthony Anderson…they were very annoying. I mean I even got annoyed at Jon Voight whom I love (not only is he a proud conservative in Hollywood he is an enjoyable actor), which just isn’t fair. The whole subplot with the government trying to decode the alien language was garbage as well. This movie starts off better … Continue reading →
